Free Healthcare Bhubaneswar Part 4: BSKY Smart Health Card

Everything about the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana. ₹5 Lakh coverage (₹10 Lakh for women), cashless treatment at private hospitals, and how to get your card.

Part 4: BSKY Smart Health Card — ₹5-10 Lakh Free Coverage

The Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) is Odisha’s flagship universal health assurance scheme. If you have a BSKY Smart Health Card, you can walk into a private hospital and get treated completely free (cashless) up to ₹5 Lakh per year (₹10 Lakh for women).


1. What is BSKY?

BSKY is a state government health insurance scheme that provides:

  • ₹5,00,000 annual health coverage per family.
  • Additional ₹5,00,000 for female members (total ₹10 Lakh for women).
  • Cashless treatment at government AND empanelled private hospitals.
  • No premium — The government pays the entire premium.

2. Who is Eligible?

You are automatically eligible if your family is covered under:

  • NFSA (National Food Security Act) ration card holders, OR
  • SFSS (State Food Security Scheme) card holders in Odisha.

Important: You do NOT need to apply online. If you have an NFSA/SFSS card, you are already enrolled.

3. How to Get Your BSKY Smart Health Card

If you haven’t received your card yet:

  1. Visit your nearest Mo Seva Kendra (Government Service Centre).
  2. Carry your NFSA/SFSS ration card and Aadhaar card.
  3. The staff will verify your details and issue the card.
  4. If your card is lost, you can get a duplicate at the same centre.

4. What Does BSKY Cover?

At Government Hospitals (Free for ALL):

Regardless of whether you have a BSKY card or not, all individuals can access free services at state government hospitals:

  • OPD, medicines (Niramaya), diagnostics (NIDAN), surgeries, ICU, inpatient care.

At Empanelled Private Hospitals (BSKY Card Required):

  • 1,900+ medical/surgical packages covering almost every type of treatment.
  • Cancer treatment (chemotherapy, radiation, surgery).
  • Cardiac surgery (bypass, angioplasty, valve replacement).
  • Joint replacement (knee, hip).
  • Neurosurgery (brain tumour, spine surgery).
  • Dialysis, organ transplant, burn care, and more.
  • Follow-up care for 10 days after discharge is also covered.

5. How to Use Your BSKY Card at a Private Hospital

  1. Go to the BSKY Help Desk at the empanelled private hospital.
  2. Show your BSKY Smart Health Card and Aadhaar.
  3. The hospital will verify your details online.
  4. Treatment is cashless — the hospital bills the government directly.
  5. You pay ₹0.
