Part 21: The Complete Day-Trip Itinerary — Hour-by-Hour Master Schedule

After 20 parts of detailed analysis, it is time to synthesise everything into a single, actionable timeline. This is your complete battle plan for Saturday, May 9, 2026 — from the moment your alarm rings to the moment you walk back into Lane 5, Sector 5, Niladri Vihar.

The Friday Night Checklist (May 8, Evening)

Before you go to bed on Friday night, complete these tasks:

  • Confirm auto-rickshaw pickup for 5:00 AM (call/WhatsApp the driver)
  • Set alarm for 4:30 AM
  • Lay out clothes: cotton kurta-pajama for you, cotton saree/salwar for mother
  • Pack cloth pouch with: Aadhaar cards (in ziplock), cash (₹2,500 in small notes), cotton towel, ORS sachets, ginger candies, paracetamol, Band-Aids, hand sanitiser
  • Fill water bottle (1 litre)
  • Pack umbrella and sunscreen
  • Charge phone to 100%
  • Download/verify UTS app (book tickets in advance if possible)
  • Check IRCTC/NTES for Durg Puri Express (18426) status
  • Prepare light breakfast items (bananas, biscuits) for 4:45 AM
  • Go to bed by 10:00 PM — you need 6.5 hours of sleep minimum

The Hour-by-Hour Schedule

4:30 AM — Wake Up

  • Wash face, brush teeth
  • Apply sunscreen (first coat)
  • Put on cotton clothes, cloth belt (no leather)
  • Final pouch check

4:45 AM — Light Breakfast

  • 1 banana, 3-4 biscuits, glass of water

  • Buy 2 General tickets at UTS counter (or confirm UTS app booking)

6:45 AM — Board Durg Puri Express (18426)

  • Check departure board for platform number
  • Find seats in General compartment — aim for window seats
  • Settle mother comfortably
  • Train departs

7:00 AM — On the Train

  • Relax. Look out the window.
  • Drink water (200ml)
  • Organise cash in pouch for easy access
  • Review this itinerary on your phone

9:30 AM — Arrive at Puri Railway Station

  • Disembark. Help mother down.
  • Walk to station exit. Ignore all touts.
  • Hire e-rickshaw (₹50-₹60 private) to Grand Road/Bada Danda

9:45 AM — Arrive at Grand Road Barricade

  • Buy coconut water (₹30 each, drink immediately)
  • Apply sunscreen (second coat)
  • Walk 500m toward Singhadwara

9:55 AM — Deposit Shoes and Phones

  • Shoe stand: deposit footwear, collect token
  • Mobile counter: deposit phones + electronics, collect token
  • Final body check: only Aadhaar, cash, towel, umbrella (left at counter)

10:00 AM — Join Darshan Queue

  • Enter barricaded queue near Singhadwara
  • Expected wait: 45-90 minutes
  • Walk on jute mats, avoid bare stone
  • Stay hydrated from water distribution points inside

10:45 AM — Security Check and Entry

  • Pass through metal detector / frisking
  • Climb 22 steps (Baisi Pahacha)
  • Enter temple compound

11:00 AM — Darshan

  • Follow queue through Jagamohana
  • 5-15 seconds at Ratna Simhasana viewing point
  • Fold hands, pray, absorb the moment
  • Help mother see clearly

11:15 AM — Post-Darshan Rest

  • Find shaded spot in the compound
  • Sit for 10 minutes
  • Drink water if available

11:30 AM — Ananda Bazar (Mahaprasad)

  • Walk to southern side of compound
  • Purchase Abhada meal: rice, dal, vegetables in earthen pots (₹200-₹400 for two)
  • Eat together, sitting on stone platforms
  • Buy Khaja sweets (₹30-₹50) for home

12:30 PM — Retrieve Phones and Shoes

  • Exit temple compound
  • Walk to mobile counter — present token, retrieve items
  • Walk to shoe stand — retrieve footwear
  • Turn on phone, check messages

12:45 PM — Decision Point: Energy Check

Ask your mother: “How are you feeling? Want to visit another temple or rest?”

If she has energy → Option A:

  • Visit Narendra Tank (especially for Chandan Yatra boat ceremony)
  • E-rickshaw: ₹20/person, 10 min ride
  • Spend 30-45 minutes
  • Return by 2:00 PM

If she is tired → Option B:
